Women’s magazines are one of my biggest pet peeves. I want to read about fashion and makeup: I don’t want leftist politics shoved down my throat. I canceled my subscription to Allure when it became politicized: sad, as I was a charter subscriber. Likewise, I didn’t re-subscribe to InStyle, as it became politicized under EIC Laura Brown. Here’s a letter that I sent to InStyle:
When my subscription to InStyle expired, I chose not to re-subscribe. I did not re-subscribe, as the magazine had become politicized under the leadership of Laura Brown; moreover, I do not share her leftist politics.
While I was at the airport, I came across the Bada** Women Issue. First, why do you need to use coarse terms such as Bada**? Secondly, the issue did not feature any conservative women.
Why not Rep. Martha McSally (R, AZ-2)? She is a 2018 Republican candidate seeking election to the U.S. Senate. She became a colonel in the U.S. Air Force. She was the first American woman to fly in combat and the first female commander of a USAF fighter squadron. She successfully challenged military policy that required servicewomen stationed in Saudi Arabia to wear the abaya when they are off base. If that isn’t bada**, I don’t know what is.
Why not Nikki Haley, U.S. Ambassador to the UN? Why not any of the numerous outspoken conservative female commentators (Dana Loesch, Michelle Malkin, Laura Ingraham, among others)?
I subscribed to InStyle for fashion, beauty, and style. I do not want to have Laura Brown’s leftist politics shoved down my throat.
If women’s magazines won’t feature conservative women, then I will. I’ve added a widget #Leftist #politics are the latest #fashion to the sidebar that will feature tweets criticizing women’s magazines.
Another letter to InStyle:
I read with interest the feature How Republican Women Are Pushing for Change Within Their Party, which was also included in the print edition of InStyle. Given the leftist bent of InStyle under the leadership of Laura Brown, I was glad to see GOP women profiled.
However, I was somewhat troubled by the article. I learned very little about Republican Women for Progress‘s positions on so-called women’s issues, immigration, and foreign relations. I agree with conservative women when they say that all issues are women’s issues. Leftist women objectify women as their sexual organs. I won’t support female candidates who were inspired by the vulgar Women’s March.
In addition, since Ms. Lim and Ms. Millory campaigned for Hillary and other Democratic candidates and are willing to accept a Democratic stronghold in Congress, I question their loyalty to the GOP. Were they Hillary supporters all along, or among the pool of GOP candidates, or did they support any of the 2016 GOP Presidential Candidates? Sorry to say, but it seems that RWFP is a Republican In Name Only (RINO) organization.
I want to show that the Democratic Party doesn’t own women and minorities. It seems, however, that efforts to support Republican women candidates are not well coordinated. Maggie’s List is the conservative counterpoint to the Democrats’ Emily’s List. Other organizations that support conservative women candidates are Winning for Women, RightNow Women PAC, and VIEW PAC. How will RWFP coordinate with those organizations?
Kind regards,
I’m not the only one who feels this way: visit http://disq.us/p/1x5ks2t:
I just cancelled In Style. I’ve subscribed for years. Every month in the past couple of years, there were more liberal political comments and bias. When an article about Republican Women against Trump was included, I called and cancelled. I told them I read this magazine for fashion, not politics. At least try to include both sides if you plan to include politics. You’ve lost me as a reader. I am sure they could care less.
UPDATE:
Guess what? Laura Brown isn’t even a U.S. citizen
It offends me that women born outside the U.S. like Laura Brown, Tina Brown, and Anna Wintour get influential media positions and presume that they can insert themselves in American politics.
