Best brow product, ever

When I go to the salon to get my hair colored, I ask my hairdresser to tint my eyebrows; however, a couple of weeks before I go to the salon (I go every 5 weeks), the grey hairs begin appearing on my brows.

I’ve experimented with various products:

Both 1 Day Tattoo Real Lasting Eyebrow and TouchBack Brow Marker are good for covering individual hairs.

Paula's Choice Brow Tint

However, my favorite brow product is Paula’s Choice Hair/Brow Tint.  It comes in a tube, much like a mascara, and has a brush that it is flat on one side, enabling it to act like a comb.   I like it because I can groom and tint my eyebrows in one step.

Tips on How to Use Radiant Orchid

MUA Margina Dennis
MUA Margina Dennis

Makeup Artist Margina Dennis shares her picks for a Radiant Orchid look:

Radiant orchid is a great color for the season because it is a universally flattering color like coral. What makes it work for everyone is the hint of red that is in it. The key to keeping this color looking fresh is to use it as an accent color or soft muted. If the lips are the focal point I like to use it as gloss, lip stain, or hydrating lip color.

OBSESSIVE COMPULSIVE COSMETICS Lip Tar – Matte in Hoochie is a soft matte look.
Pur Minerals Chateau De Vine Lipstick – Show Off is a great option for deeper skin tones.

Then keep the rest of the face simple. A nude eye or just a bit of black or grey liner as a simple wing eye or lots of mascara. For a muted look use Benefit Lolli Tint- a cheek and lip stain that is a universally flattering sheer wash of color. Pairing with soft pink in a sheer wash can be an instant fresh look.

Laura Mercier Second Skin Cheek Colors in Soft Iris and Violet Orchid, work for most skin tones. Again, keep the rest of the face muted. If  you want to go a bit bolder with the trend and wear a radiant orchid inspired eyeliner, like STILA Sparkle Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner Royal, this can look great as a winged or dramatic cat eye, just keep the rest of the face simple and let the liner be the focus.

For eye shadow you can use MARC JACOBS BEAUTY Style Eye-Con No.7- Plush Shadow as a great palette for a radiant orchid smoky eye. Keep cheek and lips in a pinked nude tone to keep the focus on the eyes.

IT Cosmetics Hello Lashes disappoints

I was turned off by It Cosmetics after trying its opaque yellow-tinged loose powder Bye Bye Pores, which I described as the most god-awful product that I’ve ever tried.  Marcia at beautyinfozone.com (see 6 beauty sites to follow) likes the product and applies it with a fan brush, which would provide a more diffused application.

In fact, it was because of the raves of Marcia and Lisa at BIZ that I decided to take a second look at It Cosmetics.  BIZ listed It Cosmetics’ Hello Lashes mascara among its top 10 mascaras and published other articles on Hello Lashes.  What clinched the deal for me was that Paula Begoun’s Beautypedia team named Hello Lashes among its 10 Best Products of 2013:

If you’ve been disappointed in the past about mascaras claiming to make regular lashes look like falsies, then this mascara will change your mind. Hello Lashes doesn’t flake or smudge and is water-resistant, with an innovative brush that can reach all lashes (even those baby lashes on the lower lash line!). The end result is a mascara that exceeds expectations in volume, length, and separation.

Here is how It Cosmetics describes Hello Lashes:

Developed with leading plastic surgeons, Hello Lashes 5-in-1 Treatment Mascara revolutionizes and takes the place of five products–volumizing mascara, conditioning lash primer, lash-enhancing serum, lash tint, and a lash comb/curler! Hello Lashes offers the blackest of black color that lasts and doesn’t flake or fade. The triple-brush lengthens, curls, and separates lashes while the innovative Magic Wand lash ball detailer tip is designed to reach every last inner and outer corner lash. Utilizes technology to infuse a blend of lash-enhancing and conditioning ingredients, including peptides, collagen, proteins, acai, jojoba, green tea, and vitamins A, C, E, and B5. Paraben, fragrance, phthalate, and sulfate free. Made in the USA.

I have to say that I was disappointed with Hello Lashes. As a volumizing mascara, Hello Lashes doesn’t compare to L’Oreal Paris Voluminous Mascara, which is still my favorite volumizing mascara. BTW makeup artist Sam Fine recommends L’Oreal Paris Voluminous Mascara as a less expensive alternative to Chanel.

You may buy Hello Lashes for USD $24.00 through the It Cosmetics website.   One thing that I do like about shopping the It Cosmetics website is that there is a relatively low threshold (USD $25.00) for free shipping, so you might want to add another product to qualify for free shipping.  Hello Lashes is also available from www.aswechange.com (for the menopausal :-), qvc.combeauty.com (no affiliate links), ulta.com, and select Ulta stores.

Review of THERA°PEARL® Eye-ssential Eye Mask

THERA°PEARL® Eye-ssential Eye Mask is an eye mask comparable to other gel eye masks, except that it contains “pearls.”   THERA°PEARL® can be used hot (don’t nuke it over 15 seconds) or cold.

I like to use it cold in the summer.  While THERA°PEARL® Eye-ssential Eye Mask can be put in the freezer, I just put it in the refrigerator.  I put the mask over my eyes to soothe burning cheeks after sun exposure.  If the elastic band is not too constricting, you can wrap it around your neck: Allure said that cooling your neck was best to cool down.

A mindless, but potentially calming, activity (like watching fish in an aquarium) is gently pressing the mask to shift the pearls from side to side.

The THERA°PEARL® Eye-ssential Eye Mask costs $13 through THERA°PEARL®’s web site.  It is widely available at drugstores and supermarkets, where you might find it for less.

Powerpuff Girl-inspired eye makeup by MUA Dayane Zanni

I was a fan of the Powerpuff Girls when it aired on Comedy Central in the 1990s.  I especially enjoyed talking about the TV episodes with my nephew in India:

Q. How did the Powerpuff Girls defeat the Rowdyruff Boys?

A. They kissed them.

Then, Neil reviewed the episode scene by scene.

My husband was amazed that Neil and I had the same cultural references, even though Neil was in India and I was in the U.S.

The Powerpuff Girls must have been a global phenomenon.  Brazilian makeup artist Dayane Zanni created these eye makeup looks inspired by Lindinha, Docinho and Florzinha. otherwise known as Bubbles, Buttercup, and Blossom.

Bubbles is the sweet, girlish Powerpuff Girl.  Here Dayane uses a blue and yellow eye makeup design inspired by Bubbles.

Buttercup is the most temperamental and “kick ass” of the three.  Here Dayane uses a green, black, and white eye design inspired by Buttercup.

Pop Beauty Peak Performance Mascara

Pop Beauty was founded by Sara Strand, sister of Petra Strand of Pixi.  Whereas Pixi’s vibe is ethereal, Pop Beauty’s is more rock’n’roll.

Pop Beauty Peak Performance Mascara
Pop Beauty Peak Performance Mascara

I haven’t seen a product like Pop Beauty Peak Performance Mascara before.  Instead of a brush wand, it features a flexible tip with a fine-toothed comb.  The Instructions have you twist the bottom of the tube 5 times (5 clicks) to deposit mascara on the comb.  When you first open the mascara, however, you have to twist the tube again and again to “prime” it.  Product dispensing is actually fairly controlled.

The great thing about Pop Beauty Peak Performance Mascara is that the comb enables you to get really close to the lash line. You can get an effect similar to tightlining.  Be forewarned, this mascara can dry out due to its delivery system and you can get specks under your eyes. For me, this is not a problem: i just remove the specks by flicking a Q-tip.

Pop Beauty Peak Performance Mascara does not smear and maximizes the appearance of your eyes through coating and separating the lashes.

Pop Beauty Peak Performance Mascara comes in 3 shades: Brilliant Black, Inky Indigo, and Cocoa Charm.  It costs $20 a tube. Twenty dollars is a lot to pay for mascara, considering that mascara is the one cosmetic you should replace most often.  As much as I like this mascara and delivery system, I’d not sure if I’d shell out $20 for it.

You may shop Pop Beauty at Ulta stores and ulta.com.
