Mally Skin Perfecting Tinted Liquid Face Defender

Mally Skin Perfecting Tinted Face Defender – from  Gouldylox Reviews

Mally Skin Perfecting Tinted Liquid Face Defender feels like a silicone-based face primer, but it isn’t advertised as such. QVC.com says that it can be worn under foundation, but “the magic comes after your makeup is on and you gently, with your fingertips, dab the product all over your face on top of your makeup! This product will not move your makeup, it will not cause it to disappear or look funky.”

I tried Mally Skin Perfecting Tinted Liquid Face Defender both under and over my usual foundation. I did not see any “magic” when I applied the product over my usual foundation; besides, I like a little “makeup melt” to soften hard edges.
I like Mally Skin Perfecting Tinted Liquid Face Defender best worn alone, instead of my usual foundation. It helps even out the complexion and gives the skin a nice radiance. It is also soothing upon application, probably because tocopherol (related to Vitamin E) is one of the chief ingredients.
Because Mally Skin Perfecting Tinted Liquid Face Defender goes on sheer, I need extra help in minimizing spots of redness. I spot apply mineral foundation with a lay-down brush over Mally Skin Perfecting Tinted Liquid Face Defender to minimize the appearance of red spots. It might be overkill, but sometimes I spot apply LaurEss Neutralize Mineral Corrector before I apply skin-toned mineral foundation.
Mally Skin Perfecting Tinted Liquid Face Defender is expensive for what you get ($40 for 1 fl. oz.), as with some of Mally’s other products. While I would like to find a less expensive option, I am not aware of any similar product on the market.
You may shop Mally at qvc.com, mallybeauty.com, and Beauty.com. Mally Skin Perfecting Tinted Liquid Face Defender is available only on QVC.com.

Mally Beauty

I haven’t been this excited about a cosmetics line for a long time. Mally Beauty, from celebrity makeup artist Mally Roncal, features great concepts, standout packaging (aluminum cases with green snake skin patterned interiors) and beautiful colors. This post covers Mally’s signature products: Lightwand Eyebrightener, City Chick Smoky Eye Kit, and Shimmer, Shape & Glow Face Defining System.

Lightwand Eyebrightener (not shown) is a dual-ended pencil that features a pencil on one end and a dabber at the other end to dispense illuminating powder. Both are used at the inner corners to brighten the eyes. BTW highlighter at the inner corners is also a key part of Carmindy’s so-called 5-Minute Face.

Canal Street Khaki (actually more olive than khaki) is a new addition to Mally’s City Chick Smoky Eye Kit collection of palettes, which I discussed in Demystifying Eye Makeup. Each kit comes complete with eye shadow base, highlighter, lip and crease colors, and a black retractable eyeliner – everything you need to create the classic smoky eye look (minus the brushes).

Shimmer, Shape & Glow Face Defining System

Shimmer, Shape & Glow Face Defining System is my favorite of the three products. It features three shades: a highlighter for the cheekbones, a blush, and a contour. Four color palettes are available: In The Pink Lighter, In The Pink Deeper, Life is Lighter, and Love is Deeper. All the palettes are pretty, and even better, you can buy refills so that you can mix and match colors.

Mally Beauty products feature inserts with Mally’s tips on using the products. You may shop Mally Beauty at QVC.com or Amazon.com.

Demystifying eye makeup

Perhaps I was a bit critical of Stila’s Smoky Eye Palette – I’m not adverse to pricey brands (particularly if they provide something I can’t find in less pricier brands) and some folks seem to like the palette. Still, I think it was nervy to insert an audio commercial advertising other Stila products on a $40 item.

That said, eye makeup is the trickiest part of makeup application, and it’s to a makeup company’s advntage to provide guidance on applying makeup to sell product. Here’s a rundown on products with accompanying guidance:

Bare Escentuals Get Started Eyes

Bare Escentuals Get Started Eyes and Bare Escentuals Tutorials – Lesson 1: Smoky Eye provide guidance with the set. I think that the lid and eyeliner shades on the model are great, but I’m not smitten with the pale pink highlighter, especially with deep-set eyes like mine (and the model’s). I wish the Chocolate Raisin liner was sold individually – it sounds like the dark-dark brown-plum I love (see also Constant Color Gel Eyeliner)

Jemma Kid Eye Wardrobe Eye Shadow Quartet
Jemma Kidd is a London-based makeup artist. She’s also the sister of model, champion polo player, and race car driver Jodie Kidd; great-granddaughter of press magnate Lord Beaverbrook; and wife of the grandson of the current Duke of Wellington – whew! Advice on application may be downloaded from Jemma Kidd’s website, as well as her columns for The Mail on Sunday (UK).

Mally Beauty City Chick Smokey Eye Kit

Mally Beauty is a makeup line from celebrity makeup artist Mally Roncal (she’s the one who makes Beyoncé always look fabulous). Originally available through QVC, Mally Beauty is available at Amazon.com. Mally Beauty City Chick Smokey Eye Kit comes in five different color themes: Brownstone (browns), Skyscraper (slate/gray), Central Park (greens), Nolita Navy (blues), and Plum Chelsea (guess). Each palette comes with eye shadow base and eye liner pencil.

Pop Beauty Eye Class – Smokey Eyes is the most diversified palette of the lot, and features these shades: jet black, smokey steel gray, sapphire blue, silver, deep plum, deep violet, burnished bronze, emerald green, olive gold, nude glow, opal gold, and sparkling white. Examples of application are provided with the palette.
