Perricone MD No Foundation Foundation giveaway – Perricone Coupon #in
Our Big L’Oreal Paris Blowout Giveaway contest ends Saturday, but we’re starting a new giveaway: one lucky winner will get a bottle of No Foundation Foundation from Perricone MD.
What is No Foundation Foundation? While many companies are extending their ranges of makeup shades to cover all skin tones, No Foundation Foundation comes in one universal shade that suits any skin tone. It’s formulated with Alpha Lipoic Acid and DMAE, which improve the skin’s appearance. It also provides SPF 30 sun protection with physical sunscreens, namely our good friends zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. It’s skin care that acts as a tinted moisturizer – or maybe it’s the other way around.

Skin MD Natural Shielding Lotion
I received a bottle of Skin MD Natural Shielding Lotion from a company representative. The web site claims that a Shielding Lotion is something other than a moisturizer, but after reviewing the web site and physician testimonials, I’m not convinced. After reviewing the ingredient list (and I appreciate that the web site describes ingredient benefits), I concluded that Skin MD Natural Shielding Lotion is a well-formulated moisturizer. Isn’t a moisturizer supposed to shield your skin from dryness?
I road-tested Skin MD Natural Shielding Lotion while I was in Canada: it was cold and even snowed while I was there. It’s hardly the most elegant moisturizer I’ve used, but, in its favor, it is lightweight and not greasy. Even better, it protected my skin from the cold weather and wind.
I’m including a packet of Skin MD Natural Shielding Lotion, good for 3½ applications, as a bonus for whoever wins the big L’Oreal Paris blowout giveaway.
To find stores near you that carry Skin MD Natural Shielding Lotion, use its store locator. You may also shop Skin MD Natural Shielding Lotion through Amazon.com.
Hair and skin issues solved
Who knew that Neosporin could trigger rashes in some people? Experts recommend at-home treatments, and if those treatments don’t solve the problem, then office treatments are recommended.

The Solution by Envision Beauty
The Solution by Envision Beauty streamlines skin care. It is a multi-tasking product that replaces night cream, serum, eye cream, and makeup primer. It also advertises itself as a replacement for day cream, but since it’s not rated for SPF, I hesitate to call it a replacement for day cream.
The Solution is a lightweight lotion that leaves a non-greasy, non-oily finish. I apply it after washing my face at night, and my skin is so soft and smooth in the morning that I don’t need to reapply it to use as a makeup primer.
Envision Beauty was founded by Kimberly Snyder, who has traveled the world learning about botanicals and worked in the beauty industry. The Solution features both natural anti-oxidants and state of the art ingredients.
Kimberly’s next introduction will be the brightening cleanser. Given that I’m impressed by The Solution, I’m looking forward to the launch of the brightening cleanser.
You may shop for The Solution and sign up to get news about the launch of the brightening cleanser at the web site for Envision Beauty.
New skin care at Walgreen’s
My slogan at More Than a Pretty Face is “beauty is where you find it.” At one level, that means I search out dollar stores, drug stores, beauty supply stores, mail order catalogues, department stores, specialty stores, and more to discover beauty products. Today I focus on new skin care products sold through Walgreen’s.
Walgreen’s is now discontinuing its European Beauty Collection of skin care brands, which means that people can now buy these products at discount.
At the same time, Walgreen’s has entered into exclusive distribution agreements with Korea’s The Face Shop and Italy’s Equilibra.
The principal product from The Face Shop is a moist mask sheet that you lay over your face for 20 minutes. The mask sheets is available in a variety of different formulas, including botanical solutions.

Equilibra Perlabella Anti-Aging Retinol Face capsules
The principal product from Equilibra is Perlabella, “pearls” or capsules of face serum in different formulas. You may buy packages containing 28 capsules from walgreens.com or Amazon.com. Packets containing seven capsules may be purchased at Walgreen’s stores.
Lindi Skin
Skin care is marketed by promising younger skin and other benefits – “hope in a jar,” as Charles Revson said. At the same time, companies use waffle words such as “skin looks …” or “skin appears” to circumvent Federal Trade Commission (FTC) investigations into fraudulent advertising claims.
I rely on sunscreen, AHA, BHA, dual-phase eye makeup removers, and gentle cleansers for my skin care. My main requisites for a moisturizer are: is it emollient? will I wake up with softer feeling skin?
The target consumer for Lindi Skin is unusual: it markets to patients whose skin has been “compromised” by cancer. Since dryness and irritation afflict cancer patients, Lindi Skin’s products have been formulated to soothe and moisturize the skin. Lindi Skin is great for those of us who have been spared cancer, but nonetheless want soothing and moisturizing skin care.
This review will cover three Lindi Skin products: Lindi Face Moisturizer, Lindi Eye Hydrator, and Lindi Body Wash.
Lindi Face Moisturizer (2 oz., $38.00) is emollient and non-greasy. I like to apply it at bedtime – my skin feels smooth to the touch when I wake up in the morning. It does have an astringent smell when you apply it.
Lindi Skin’s web site describes Lindi Eye Hydrator (15 ml, $30.00) as a gel: actually, it looks more like an ointment. Just pat it in with your ring finger, and it has a non-greasy finish, thanks to the silicons in the formulation.
Lindi Body Wash (8 oz., $20.00) is an extra-moisturizing body wash with imperceptible fragrance.
Other unique products include Lindi Face Tint, which is designed to counteract the grayish tone associated with cancer patients, and Lindi Skin Cooler Pads, to comfort burnt or itchy skin.
ThickerLongerBetter Part I
Many of us are constantly seeking the perfect mascara: one that thickens or lengthen lashes (or maybe both!) and doesn’t smear or clump.
Many people like Cover Girl’s Lash Blast. While Lash Blast doesn’t smear or clump, I was disappointed, as it didn’t deliver on building significant thicker lashes. Rimmel’s new Glam’EYES does deliver on building thicker and longer lashes and doesn’t smear. However, you might want to run a lash comb or clean mascara wand afterwards to define and separate the lashes.

Maybelline Colossal Volum’ Express mascara
beauty girl musings had great things to say about Maybelline Colossal Volum’ Express mascara. I have yet to try this mascara. If Lash Blast’s orange packaging was eye-catching, then Colossal Volum’ Express’s packaging is eye-popping, in a yellow that fairly screams. Monique said that you’d expect to pay about $7 for Colossal Volum’ Express. Where I live (Northern Virginia, near DC), if you have a CVS customer card, you can get Colossal Volum’ Express on sale for $4.99 through Saturday, July 5; even better, you’ll get “bonus bucks” that will give you $2 discount on a future CVS purchase. Enter your zip code to locate your nearest CVS store at CVS.com and browse the Weekly Store Ad to see if this offer applies to your store.
Since I mentioned the CVS sale, I should also mention another special applying to my location is “bonus bucks” for $5 discount on a future CVS purchase with purchase of LaRoche-Posay’s Anthelios SX SPF 15 sunscreen. Anthelios SX contains Mexoryl SX, which is the 1st sun filter in a sunscreen approved by the FDA in 18 years. Mexoryl SX fills the gap in sunscreens for short UVA ranges.
PS I took advantage of the CVS sale to purchase Maybelline Colossal Volum’ Express mascara. This has the edge over Rimmel’s new Glam’EYES mascara. Maybelline Colossal Volum’ Express is a buy.
PS Just got notice from Anthelios’ PR that Anthelios 40 with SPF 40 will be available soon.
50 Tips for Healthier Skin at Any Age
Fiona (last name withheld) alerted me to this article 50 Tips for Healthier Skin at Any Age, which features helpful advice on protection from the sun, skin care, healthy living, what goes in your body, what goes on your body, and supplements.
The article states, “Your hair has oils on it, so when your hair is constantly touching your face, it is transferring those oils. Keep your hair back or find a new cut that features your face front and center.” I would add that one should change pillowcases (in which case, it’s advisable to buy more than one set of pillowcases) and clean their combs and brushes every time they wash their hair – especially if she goes without washing their hair for several days!
The article did not mention the use of AHAs and BHAs for exfoliation. For advice on AHAs and BHAs in particular and skin care in general, consult The Beauty Brains based on the popular blog and Paula Begoun’s The Beauty Bible
.
Bed Bath and Beauty
In this post, I would like to mention some of the more unusual beauty products that Bed Bath and Beyond carries:
![]() |
| Rubiglo Powder Blush |
Rubiglo (along with Indian Earth) was one of the original all-purpose loose powder cosmetics. As with Indian Earth, Rubiglo comes in urns reminescent of pottery that are plugged with corks. If you’re a purist, however, you won’t appreciate that Rubiglo contains talc (which IMO gets a bad rap) and parabens.
![]() |
| Wonder Cloth |
The Wonder Cloth is a face cloth made of cotton and plant pulps that you can use with water and your favorite cleanser to remove makeup and provide gentle (mechanical) exfoliation.

| Beauty Strokes brushes |
Beauty Strokes is an inexpensive line of full-size natural hair cosmetics brushes (eye brushes cost less than six dollars). If you’re like me and don’t know which end of a brush is up, Beauty Strokes features application tips in the package inserts – French and Spanish also provided. You may also find Beauty Strokes at Amazon.com.
