Skin Milk is a line of products for the bath, body, and face that is formulated with milk proteins and vitamins and designed to soothe and comfort. Products are packaged in containers that look like milk jugs. The theme of comfort is carried on by the vanilla fragrance of the products. Facial and body scrubs are formulated with almond meal and oatmeal, so they are as gentle as they come. The Skin Milk web site lists books to read (something that I appreciate, as I’ve covered books on both this blog and The Style Page web site) while soaking in the tub and hosts a discussion forum called the Comfort Corner.

The Style Page is about more than fashion and beauty – we also have a major portion of our web site devoted to the home and design. Hazaad.com is a recent addition to our page on carpets and floor coverings.

Hazaad.com and Hazaad West on eBay are online shops run by John Geer. John grew up in Santa Fe, New Mexico and one might assume that his interest would be in Native American rugs – Navajo rugs and Zapotec rugs, which are emerging as a more affordable alternative to Navajo rugs. John decided however to focus on other forms of weaving that are constantly reforming and reinventing themselves.

Hazaad focuses on Kazakh, Dhurrie, and Gebbeh rugs.

Kazakhs are pile rugs that have their origins in the nomadic people of the southern Caucasus, between the Black and the Caspian Sea. These rugs are characterized by their intricate geometric patterns and bold colors.

Dhurries are flat weave rugs that have their origins in India, and are completely reversible.

Gebbehs are the least known of the three types of rugs sold by Hazaad.com. These were originally intended for the personal use of the weavers. These long pile rugs are characterized by their spare geometric patterns.

Ethnic rugs help unify furniture pieces in a space. They particularly look great on hardwood floors and under glass-topped dining tables and coffee tables. One thing that I’ve learned is that rugs that look garish on the racks can look surprisingly subtle on a hardwood floor. Melanin, as noted previously, is a major determinant of skin color. Eumelanin imparts brownish shades to skin and hair, while Pheomelanin imparts a yellow to reddish shade to skin and hair.

Scientists in Japan claim that they have clarified the structure of tyrosinase, an enzyme that mediates the chemical creation of both eumelanin and pheomelanin.

This development could lead to the development of more effective skin whitening products. Skin whitening products are particularly popular among Asian cosmetics brands such as Shiseido and the troubled Kanebo, whose cosmetics line was purchased by KAO.
